Antique Restoration

Antique Restoration refers to period correct repairs and finishing- conservation procedures - noninvasive and saving patina on a historical piece and often bringing a piece of art/furniture back to life.
We perform museum quality work on your beloved heirlooms, antique collectibles and historical / architectural elements.

French Polishing

French polishing is a finishing technique known from the ancient times, 100% natural, where shellac is applied /padded over a surface with a pad/rubber going over the same area even hundreds of times, building slowly a film that is perfectly transparent and at the same time closing the grain of the wood more and more towards a mirror like finish.
Shellac is a natural resin coming from the shell of a bug in Indonesia that gets collected and refined. The shellac flakes are melted in alcohol which makes the carrier of the shellac and help the film dry right away, allowing multiple passes over the same area.
We love restoring dining tables and breakfast tables and all types of furniture that is enhanced with this beautiful finish.
Often times, for a more silk like, satin look we will hand rub it down and wax the shellac finish.

Furniture Refinishing

Refers to the process of removing the old finish, perform repairs and prep work, do color work (often known as stain) and apply a finish.
Why WE are better than everyone else is because our process is:

strip clean a fine piece of furniture/reproduction
Perform repairs and structural reinforcements
Ultra-clear dye work and glazing is performed, my processes enhance the wood, not hide it, and make the grain show more.

Apply finish (clear finishes , over 90% transparency , shellac and lacquer - NEVER polyurethane and other plastic like finishes )
Hand rub with old masters techniques and wax the piece for a silk like feel , look and continuous, easy maintenance of surface

Hand stripping and bleaching

We do hand stripping on antiques but we can also strip your piece of furniture for a modern look. We also can bleach it and make it look more contemporary.
What sets us aside from our competitors is that we offer a transparent coating, import from Italy, to protect the surface.
It looks like there is no coating on there but in reality there is. We use a water based product made especially to look like there’s nothing on there ... raw look

In house touch up

We do onsite work on pieces that need tender love and care in their place with the comfort of not having to move them and it means we work on many pieces in the same day - in the house

Interior designer special finishes

We love working with our beloved interior designers and provide the specialty finishes they require.
The more challenging it is, the more we love doing it , we can do lacquer finishes of any color or code , you just give us the code and we mix it to your specs
Also we do Patinations and antiquing on furniture , mirrors , carvings chandeliers and many more

Leather desk top restoration

We like to restore leather on desk tops and antique pieces, because the results are always stunning and the client is happy.

Leather can be cleaned and sanded and French polished almost like wood does, materials may differ a little but we like doing a quality job and I think the pictures speak for themselves here

Refinishing - lacquer and hand rubbed

We do basic refinishing, but a fine quality one where stripping is performed all the repairs are done correctly and then the proper color for the piece (in conformity with the original or the client's new desire ) then lacquer is applied and in the very end it is either hand rubbed and waxed , or the final coat of lacquer will achieve the desired sheen and smoothness . Only then we call it completed!

Veneer repairs

You should choose specialists only when you’re in need of veneer repairs and rebuilding- reveneering
How can you tell who is NOT specialist :
Most cheap repairs are performed with putty or Bondo... yes , the car Bondo , and colored/painted in to try to match the wood grain . That will leave a film that is cloudy , not transparent and sticks out like a sore thumb .

Specialists like us use real wood veneer , we have a collection of over 1000 species of veneers to choose from and also we have a broad variety of “Carpathian Walnut “, the predominant wood used in Antiques building in Italy 16-18 century antiques. We will get your missing veneer just right
Also we custom build inlay and marquetry and sometimes apply it on furniture to customize it

Waxing that makes a difference

Waxing is a great way to keep your antiques jolly and happy looking.
It’s also the reason why high end reproductions have a wax finish on top of a resistant protective coat - note that waxing is done on top of a coating, after it has been smoothed out with 00000 steel wool.
But waxing is a great way to make a cheap finish look a million bucks.
We recommend and use waxing for maintenance and continuous care and an easier clean-up of residue as well

Custom inlay

We like to enhance simple shapes and simple furniture with beautiful inlay and marquetry panels.
Often times the client will choose the design and we make the inlay, apply it to furniture and French polish and wax the piece for a timeless look.

We have transformed this plain looking mahogany enfilafe into a custom design inlaid piece of art, there is not another one like it anywhere, the uniqueness of it makes the process worthwhile. 120 hours were needed to complete the project and we are personally proud of every inch of it.

Custom finished to match a sample

Custom finishing by the sample is one of our specialties, as you can see in the picture, the table had a color that was not desirable in the particular space it was used.
We refinished the table to match the sample and nailed the color, for a look that’s timeless and in harmony with the rest of the room.

Insurance claim - water damage furniture restoration

Insurance adjusters are our friends and often times we get calls for an accident that happened. I always respond promptly and we are able to do all the paperwork professionally and in timely manner.
We can also handle claims if you call us and we will get you the best quality /price there is on the market.

Water damage is often times infiltrated under the finish so we need to remove the old failed finish. On top of that there is a lot of repair work that needs to happen before the new finish, usually French polish goes on the piece.
We aim for pre-loss condition, like new condition, is what we promise but often times clients tell us we made the piece - better than new condition ... I think it’s a good problem to have though.

New constructions need us too, we go in and finish handrails, doors, paneled rooms, libraries and beams, all of them to your very custom specifications, desires and chosen looks.
We will provide as many samples as the client needs to make up their mind on a certain look and be sure that is what they want. We do paneled rooms maintenance and touch ups as well so if your library /paneled room needs a finishing touch, a wax or a touch up feel welcomed to contact us.

Moving Damage Fix

We help our beloved clients when they run into a problem like broken legs even if means making the wood joinery again . We will rebuild tables and sofas and many other pieces as seen in the pictures below
We like to do a correct woodworking repair so many clamps and vectorial strategies are needed. Stay tuned.

Insurance Claims - Fire Damage

Fire damage is an unfortunate accident and it can result in total damage to your beloved goods.
We are here to help and we can be reached 24/7 to cater to your needs and emergency disaster help.
We will remove the damaged items, inspect everything, write a report, then once it’s approved by the insurance adjuster we proceed to clean artwork and furniture and remove the smoke damage as well as ozone treat everything to remove the smoke smell.
We will repair/restore everything back to pre-loss condition and help you get back to normality as soon as possible.

Ebonize wood and black lacquer

We love to customize your beloved furniture and give it a new life. Black lacquer and any given color to your desire can become a dream come true, you just call us and we take care of it , you want it satin or high gloss ? No problem for us, we are here to do a good quality job, strip the piece to raw wood, repair and only then finish in your desired color and Sheen.

Piano Refinishing

We love to French polish a beautiful piano, we can get your piano case in pristine shape so you can enjoy a warm sound that is in perfect harmony with the exterior shape of the piano is in
We will take all the piano parts and wrap them separately, cover the mechanisms and protect everything until just the wood is revealed. Then we will strip the old finish off completely, perform all the prep work, and then polish it to your desired look.

Furniture Repair

A good repair lasts a lifetime but a bad fix will just make it worse.
We like to clean the broken places, evaluate the missing chunks and rebuild them with wood - ! Not putty, Bondo or epoxy! - carve the joinery back and use wooden rods and tenons to insure the break is fixed and reinforced.
We do not resort to nails and screws, only glue and wood for structural repairs.
